Mykonos’ unique light has been praised by the poets and the island has been a favourite holiday destination for VIPs from all around the world since 1960. The island remains the most famous destination in Greece and is synonymous with a cosmopolitan atmosphere and nightlife. It is gay friendly, with beautiful beaches and is famous for its luxury hotels and for the gourmet restaurants, clubs and designer shops to be found in the streets of the most beautiful Cycladic village in the Aegean.

Worth seeing:

- In Mykonos Town: Little Venice with the captains’ houses built on the seafront, the Lower Windmills and the Matogiannia area which is the town’s shopping centre with expensive shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. The Town Hall which dates from 1780 and Gialos, the more than 60 churches built in the 17th and 18th centuries including the outstanding Paraportiani which was built beside the "paraporti", the small gate to the castle. The museums in the town are also interesting and include: the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum, the Aegean Maritime Museum and the Bonis Windmill.

- The beaches. The island has many wonderful beaches. Some of the truly outstanding cosmopolitan beaches are Psarou, Paradise, Super Paradise, Elia, Lia, Ornos, Panormos and Paraga.

- In the rest of the island. Ano Meria and the monastery of Panayia Tourliani, Palaiokastro Hill, Armenistis lighthouse, the towers and the Neolithic settlement of Ftelia
