The island known as Scheria in ancient times has a jewel of a town which is embellished with fortresses, squares, alleys and emblematic buildings on which the Venetians, the French and the English left their mark. The island has a great deal to offer the visitor with the famous Achilleion Palace, the Kanoni area and the island of Pontikonisi, Paleokastritsa village, the Canal d 'Amour, endless beaches, villas and dozens of hotel complexes. Worth seeing:

- In Corfu town, the historic centre of which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site: Spianada Square, which is thought to be the largest square in the Balkans, the Liston, an attractive French-built arcade, the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, the famous alleyways in the Campiello area, the Town Hall Square, the church of Aghios Spyridonas and the town’s museums (The Archaeological Museum, The Museum of Asian Art, The Municipal Art Gallery etc.). The "guardians" of Corfu are the Old Fortress (where the town was situated from the 11th to the 15th centuries) and the New Fortress which was built between 1576 and 1645.
